English Seminar: Current trends in immigration law will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
NEW VISA STATUSES: Policy overhaul and its effects on the labor market
As the new immigration system is about to start this spring, we welcome you to join us at our seminar! This event is part of a series and aims at a better understanding of the Immigration Law in Japan to be introduced. The amendment to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act was passed by the Diet in December 2018 and as one of the first to hold a seminar in English on this topic, we are proud to have prominent speakers on the podium such as Mr. Manabu Hatakeyama, a retired Head of Osaka and Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureaus and now special adviser to our law firm. He will mainly touch on the new visa category “Designated Skilled Labor” (provisional name), its concept and context with the existing immigration system. This theoretical part will explain how certain industries, which have been so far accepting workers under “Engineer/ Specialist in Humanities/International Services” status or “Technical Intern Training” status, will be able to employ workers under this new system and open the door to a large number of foreign workforce for Japan. The second session will focus on the day-to-day practice and provide listeners with an outlook from a professional’s perspective of what is to be expected in the near future. The final Q&A and discussion will cover not only the above mentioned policy overhaul, but is open to broader immigration matters and also concerns. You can download our leaflet here.
